ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA:
FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
Dear Friends,
Welcome!
Our Inaugural Season 2007/2008 signaled a renaissance in the world of orchestral performance.
In the spirit of musical collegiality and community involvement, the Chamber Orchestra of New
York encourages its young musicians in their pursuit of artistic excellence.
As the first (auditioned) professional orchestra in New York history established especially for
young professionals, the Chamber Orchestra’s principal purpose is to develop and provide regular
performance opportunities for instrumentalists exiting the music conservatories, while in the
early stages of their careers. Unlike most other new or existing ensembles, our mission involves
our musicians!
There is nothing more exciting than developing an orchestra with artists of the highest caliber, who are youthful and passionate in their music making - and what an exciting time in the history of American music to establish such an orchestra! In an age when the incredibly large number of gifted musicians outweighs the small number of positions open to sustain their talent, I am very much convinced that music history will change course if American cities and their arts supporters begin to introduce and sustain their own special philharmonics for young professionals. This could change the face of American (and perhaps international) popular culture once again.
As a human being, I am humbled by the high level of musicianship of our auditioned musicians. As a conductor, I could not be more excited about the endless possibilities such a growing ensemble presents for the future, as we and our supporters begin to recreate a new thriving classical music community in the city of New York.
I greatly look forward to making a personal musical statement together with our musicians at each of our concerts. And I hope you will become a supporter and join us on our extraordinary musical journey!
Yours Sincerely,
Salvatore Di Vittorio
